Transfers
The hierarchy of mobility skills are a set of skills that goes in increasing order for restoring confidence in mobility. It begins with bed mobility, mat transfer, wheelchair transfer, bed transfer, functional ambulation for ADL, toilet and tub transfer, car transfer, functional ambulation for community mobility, & lastly community mobility and driving. This is what I expected it to be, and I think the order of these activities makes the most sense because bed mobility would be the lowest demand for activity skills while the highest demand of activity skills is community mobility and driving. I honestly haven't been able to observe many of these activities in my past experience of observation hours, but I have seen a lot of wheelchair transfers! I have attended and been a counselor at many camps for people with intellectual disabilities where I was able to help with wheelchair transfers a lot and observe others do them as well. I am the most familiar with this type of transfer for sure. I am excited to be able to learn more about the other types of transfers and be able to practice them myself eventually! Lastly, I would agree with this hierarchy's approach considering the activities are listed in order of increasing skill demand.
